Australia’s quarterly petrol analysis reveals good news for Aussies as crude oil and retail prices come into line

Comparethemarket.com.au has unveiled its final national Quarterly Petrol Analysis* for 2015 that confirms the nation’s petrol prices look set to fall during the Christmas period. Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne motorists should all see lower unleaded prices in the week of Christmas.

The news is also good for Perth, which works on a seven-day price cycle. Monday is typically the cheapest day to fill up for Perth motorists and with Christmas falling on a Friday, prices should edge downwards towards Christmas day. Pressure eased at the bowser in Perth this quarter – motorists there saw a quarter average petrol price of $126.3, down 7.2cpl on the previous quarter’s average.

Free comparison website comparethemarket.com.au, which updates petrol price data three times daily across all major Australian cities, released petrol figures which compare average fourth quarter prices (13 September to 13 December 2015) against third quarter prices this year.

Petrol prices are down compared with last quarter, with Brisbane seeing the largest average fall by 9.3cpl to 126.2cpl. In Sydney, ULP prices sit at a quarter average of 128.4cpl – 7.4cpl down from last quarter – while Melbourne’s quarter average is 124.1cpl, well down from last quarter’s average of 129.5cpl.

While the long term forecast for Christmas points to lower petrol prices, Abigail Koch, spokesperson for comparthemarket.com.au says petrol prices in Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney have just hit their peak so motorists should hold off as long as possible and wait for prices to drop before filling up.

Where motorists found the cheapest petrol in their cities during the quarter?
