Let’s cut to the chase: keeping New Year’s resolutions should be a resolution in itself!
If your goal this year is to save more money (or the even harder goal of spending less), there is one thing you can do to get the ball rolling.
One of the biggest barriers to scoring goals is setting them so big that they start to feel unachievable.
Instead, break them down into small goals and achieve your first goal quick.
People constantly fall into the trap of setting overly-ambitious goals for the year. For example, “This year, I must save $5,000 to go on holidays”. That’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself.
How about, “This January, I am going to spend $400 less”?
Switching energy providers is one of the easiest (and fastest) ways to get a win on the board. Energy providers love new customers and will generally offer decent discounts if you switch. PLUS you’ll get to enjoy that saving all year long. It’s a no-brainer. You can review your energy options.
“Set and forget”, “Couldn’t be bothered”. You know who loves these terms? Businesses who send out automatic renewal notices to you each year. If you’ve got car insurance or home insurance then, statistically speaking, you’ve been getting the same letter from the same insurer for the last couple of years. Make 2019 the year you say “Enough! I will not just sigh every time I get “the letter”. I can change – I might get a better deal!”, then review your car insurance and home insurance.
Around half of Aussies have private health insurance. If you’ve glanced at a newspaper lately, you’ll know that, as a country, we aren’t happy with the value we are getting out of private health insurance. Don’t get frustrated; get even. Gary* saved $900 on his health insurance when he reviewed it, and the whole process took him 30 minutes. We know it can be confusing, so we’ve aimed to make it as simple as possible. Review your health insurance.
* Not his real name, as he was too busy enjoying life to provide it.
