Compare the Market editorial charter
Whether you’re researching insurance, utilities, money products or everyday household expenses, our goal is to give you clear, accurate and easy-to-understand information so you can make a more informed decision – and feel confident in it.
This page sets out the principles our editorial team works to, the review process each piece of content goes through before it’s published, and the people behind it.
Everything we publish is created with the reader in mind. Our content answers the questions Australians are asking, so they understand their options before they compare.
Insurance doesn’t need to be confusing. Our writers focus on explaining complex topics in plain language – no jargon for the sake of it, and every technical term defined the first time it appears.
Every new piece of content is reviewed by an editor, a commercial product specialist and our legal and/or compliance team before it goes live. Below, we explain what each reviewer checks.
When we write about products, providers or industry trends, we aim to give a balanced picture. Where Compare the Market has a commercial relationship with a provider, that relationship does not determine our editorial opinions, recommendations or educational content.
We give general information to help you weigh up your options. We don’t tell you what to choose.
We review our content regularly whenever relevant products, legislation or market conditions change.
Nothing is published on a single person’s say-so. Each new piece of editorial content goes through multiple approvers, each with a different area of focus, with the level of review determined using a risk-based approach.
Our writers own their subject areas. They spend their days reading Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), tracking provider and product changes, monitoring regulatory developments and analysing our own comparison data. Before a draft leaves the writer’s hands, every claim is tied to a source.
Our editors check that the piece is accurate, readable and structurally sound. Specifically, they verify that:
Our commercial team includes specialists in each product area – people who work with providers daily and know exactly which products and offers are currently available. Their review checks whether the product details are technically accurate, and nothing else. This includes confirming that:
Our legal and/or compliance team reviews content against our regulatory obligations. They verify that:
Our published content is reviewed periodically to keep the information current and relevant, and updated promptly when needed to reflect government and industry changes.
