Frequently asked questions

How can I pay for my Coles Pet Insurance and is it cheaper to pay my premium annually?

You can pay your premiums via direct debit from your nominated bank account, with BPAY or manually with a credit or debit card. If you would like to pay with BPAY, you can call Coles Pet Insurance to arrange your payment. Premiums can be paid either annually or monthly with no extra charge.

How do I make a Coles Pet Insurance claim?

You can lodge a claim any time through their Online Policy Manager, or by phone during business hours on 1300 333 738 if you prefer to speak to someone. Keep in mind you may need to pay the vet bill upfront and then claim to get reimbursed for those fees with a fully itemised invoice. Claims must be submitted within a year of treatment.

Coles Pet Insurance may pay your scheduled vet bill in advance for eligible pre-approved procedures, and you’ll just need to pay your excess and gap.

How much of my vet bill does Coles Pet Insurance cover?

After you’ve paid your policy excess, you can get up to 100% back on eligible vet bills or up to 80% if you choose a lower benefit level. The benefit level is the amount Coles may pay on eligible claims up to the overall annual benefit limit, as well as any other sub-limits. Check your policy’s PDS for more details on your cover.

Does Coles Pet Insurance allow me to choose the treating vet?

Yes, you can select any qualified or registered veterinarian of your choice within Australia. Keep in mind that vets set their own fees for surgeries and procedures; if possible, it’s a good idea to get quotes from different practitioners before deciding on a vet.

Does Coles Pet Insurance cover pre-existing conditions?

Coles Pet Insurance doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions that your pet developed before taking out your policy or within the waiting period, as is standard with most pet insurance policies. This also extends to conditions related or bilateral to a pre-existing condition.

If your pet is fully cured from a pre-existing condition and your vet can provide proof, the condition may no longer be excluded from cover for any future treatment, depending on the terms, conditions and limits of your policy.

Does Coles Pet Insurance have waiting periods?

There’s a 21-day waiting period for most illnesses and accidental injuries, except cruciate ligament conditions and optional dental cover which have a six-month waiting period. There are no waiting periods for some accidental injuries (e.g. anaphylactic shock, burn or electrocution, motor vehicle accidents) and for optional Routine Care cover. Specific waiting periods are shown in your policy and insurance certificate.

Is there an age limit for pets covered by Coles Pet Insurance?

Your pet must be at least eight weeks old and younger than nine years old when you purchase a Coles Pet Insurance policy. The policy offers a lifetime cover guarantee for pets insured before they turn nine years old when the policy is renewed each year without a break in cover.

Do I have to pay an excess with Coles Pet Insurance?

A policy excess applies per claim for accidents and illnesses on all Coles Pet Insurance policies, including those with a lower selected benefit level. There’s no excess payable on Routine Care optional cover. Your PDS will contain more information about the excesses that apply to your policy.

How do I cancel my Coles Pet Insurance?

You can cancel your Coles Pet Insurance policy at any time via email or by contacting the customer care team; you can find all relevant contact information in your PDS or on the Coles Pet Insurance Contact Us website page. Coles Pet Insurance has a 21-day cooling-off period, which means you can receive a refund of your premiums paid if you cancel your policy within the cooling-off period, unless you’ve made a claim under this policy.

Can I insure more than one pet?

Yes, you can insure more than one pet under a policy and be eligible for a 5% discount. This is calculated on and applied to your premium.

How do Flybuys points work?

If you link your Flybuys to your Coles Pet Insurance Policy, you’ll collect 10 Flybuys points per $1 spent on any product purchased from the pet aisle at Coles Supermarkets and Coles Online when you scan your Flybuys.
