WorkCover insurance in Australia is a no-fault system and is designed to protect both workers and employers, playing a vital role in workplace safety and wellbeing.2

The WorkCover scheme is a type of insurance that employers in VIC are required to have. It covers Victorian workers who are injured or become ill because of their job. Depending on individual circumstances and eligibility, this support may include:

  • Weekly payments based on pre-injury average, weekly earnings
  • Reasonable cost of treatment expenses
  • Support for families if a family member passes away due to a work-related incident.

Does workers’ compensation cover travel to and from work in Victoria?

However, you may be covered if you were required by your employer to travel for work-related duties, such as visiting a client, attending an off-site meeting or delivering goods. Typically, travel may be covered when:

  • Travelling is part of your job (e.g. a delivery driver or tradie moving between sites)
  • You’re travelling between two work locations
  • You’re on your way to a meeting or another off-site work-related task.

How long can I be covered under workers’ compensation in Victoria?

The length of time you’re covered will depend on a number of factors, including:1

  • Work capacity
  • The type of support you’re receiving
