Features of OVO Energy’s energy plans

  • All plans use renewable energy. While all OVO Energy plans use at least 10% green energy, you also have the option of investing in the nation’s renewable energy future by increasing how much renewable electricity you use. All plans are also 100% carbon-neutral, meaning they don’t release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
  • Easy payments with direct debit. It’s easier than ever to pay your energy bill on time. All energy plans through OVO Energy require a direct debit payment, which will leave your account at the same time every month. You’ll always know how much you’ll need to pay and when.
  • Transaction fees waived. You won’t be charged a transaction fee for simply paying your bill each month. There are also no exit fees if you change energy providers.
  • Bill-smoothing. You’ll pay the same amount each month for your energy – even if you’re using more or less than other times of the year. OVO Energy estimates how much energy you’ll use in a year and calculates your monthly debit based on this average. You’ll always know what your bill is and by the end of a 12-month period, you should end up with a zero balance.
  • You’re paid interest if you’re in credit. If there’s a month where you’ve used less energy than was estimated on your bill, OVO Energy will pay you interest on this amount. This interest amount increases the longer you’re a customer with OVO Energy.
  • No penalty for increased energy use. Because your bills are estimated, and an average is calculated on how much energy you’ll use for the year, there are going to be some months where you’ll use more energy than others. When calculating your monthly bill, these are taken into consideration, and you won’t be charged interest if your account falls into debt. Your bills may be adjusted if you’re regularly using too much or too little of your estimated usage.
  • Support when you need it. If you have any questions about your bill or require assistance, OVO Energy can help. A Melbourne-based customer service team is available to answer queries online or through their customer service hotline.

Can I use another payment method other than direct debit?

No, all plans with OVO Energy require direct debit as the payment method. This ensures your energy payments are scheduled for the same amount at the same time every month,  so you can stay on top of your bills.

Can my energy bill change throughout the year?
While OVO Energy customers enjoy bill-smoothing, there are cases where your bill could increase or decrease. For example, if OVO Energy determines their estimates weren’t in line with your energy consumption, your direct debit may be adjusted. You’ll always be notified of a change ahead of time.

How long does it take to apply?
