How do we make money?
We don’t charge consumers anything to use our comparison service. Instead, we receive a commission from the insurers we partner with each time one of our customers takes out a new car insurance policy through our website or by phone with one of our insurance partners. More details about our fees can be found in our Financial Services Guide.
We pride ourselves on the integrity of our comparison service so it is critically important to us that the way we make money doesn’t affect the way we compare or present products from our partner funds.
How does our comparison service work?
Choosing the right car insurance policy is often difficult and time consuming. Our comparison service aims to make that process easier and faster, giving our customers peace of mind that they have made the right decision. Our comparison service also helps cost-conscious consumers compare policies and shop around for a better deal.
On our website, our customers can enter details about themselves and their car, tell us what type of product they want (for example, full comprehensive or third party only), then browse through the suitable policies that are available to them. Once they have chosen a policy that they wish to purchase, they will be taken to the relevant insurer’s website (through a link on our website) or, if one is available, the insurer’s call centre or our call centre (they may be contacted directly, or they can call the insurer or our call centre through a telephone number displayed on our website), to complete the application.
The comparison service and any other information provided on our website or via our call centre is factual information or general advice. That means that we don’t make personal recommendations or suggestions, or give advice about the suitability of a particular insurance product for a customer’s specific needs. Rather, we encourage our customers to evaluate their needs, objectives and situation to decide which products are suitable for them, using our comparison service as a helpful tool. More information can be found in our Financial Services Guide.
What brands and products do we compare?
We currently compare car insurance products from 10 car insurance brands:
- Budget Direct
- Australia Post
- Insurance Box
- Virgin Money
- 1st for Women
- AI Insurance
- Famous Insurance Agency
We are working hard to welcome on board brands that are not currently part of our comparison service and we hope to have good news on that front for our customers in the future.
There will be times when certain brands are not available, or do not return any quotes to a customer. That might be because the customer does not meet the underwriting criteria, or is not eligible for, particular products. In particular, many car insurers do not insure, or do not have appropriate insurance policies for, classic, vintage or high value cars. If you own a car that falls into these categories, we recommend that you start your quote from our “Classic Car Insurance” page (instead of our standard car insurance page), in which case we will refer you to Famous Insurance Agency, which specialises in insuring those type of cars.
All of the above car insurance brands other than Woolworths, Famous Insurance Agency, Insurance Box, and AI Insurance sell policies that are arranged by Auto & General Services Pty Ltd, for and on behalf of the insurer, Auto & General Insurance Company Limited, both of which are our related bodies corporate.
