Stella’s car insurance policy

Stella offers competitively priced comprehensive cover with premium benefits, optional extras and rewards for being a safe driver. You can adjust your agreed value and excess levels to reach a premium that works for you, as well as tailor your cover by choosing from a range of optional extras. Their comprehensive policy covers:

  • Theft and accidental damage. Cover for theft, attempted theft, collision, malicious damage, fires and natural disasters (e.g. hail, storms and floods).
  • New car replacement. A brand-new replacement of the same make, model and series if your car is written off within the first three years of the policy, provided you’re the first registered driver and have logged less than 60,000km in the vehicle.
  • No claim reward. Enjoy excess reduction for safe driving; you could receive an amount off your basic excess for each year (up to a maximum of three years) that you don’t make a claim, or only make a claim for an accident where you weren’t at fault.
  • Baby gear. You can receive a specified amount of cover for prams and other essential baby gear that’s been damaged in an accident or stolen from your car.
  • Personal items. Cover for personal items (up to a limit) if they’re stolen with your car or damaged in an accident.
  • Domestic violence cover. Stella won’t apply an excess to claims for damage caused to your car by your former or current spouse/partner if the incident has been reported to the police.
  • Third party liability. If your car causes damage to other people’s property, you can be covered for up to $20 million.
  • Additional benefits. Cover for things like emergency accommodation, baby capsules, transport and towing.

What’s more, Stella helps cover the cost of transport to your repairer’s destination if they’re a part of Stella’s Accredited Smash Repairer Network.

Optional extras for an additional premium include cover for roadside assistance, no-excess windscreen and car hire following an at-fault accident. Your cover will be subject to exclusions, restrictions and sub-limits; for more details, check your policy’s Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Frequently asked questions

How do I pay for car insurance with Stella?

You can pay for Stella car insurance via direct debit or credit card, and you can choose to pay for the full year or in monthly instalments. If you choose to pay for your car insurance monthly but miss a payment, Stella may cancel the policy if the policy is unpaid for one month or longer.

Does Stella cover drivers under 25 on their car insurance policies?

Stella car insurance does cover drivers under 25 years old. Listing drivers of certain ages on your policy can affect the cost of your car insurance, and if a driver under 25 years old is driving at the time of an incident that leads to a car insurance claim with Stella, you may have to pay an additional excess.

How do I claim on my Stella car insurance?

You can make a car insurance claim either online or by contacting the Stella claims team on their 24/7 claims line. When you claim, make sure you have all the relevant documentation, information and receipts for your claim, including your policy number, details about what happened and contact details for the people involved.

Do I have to pay an excess with Stella car insurance when I claim?

You may have to pay an excess depending on the nature of your claim. For instance, if you’re at fault for an accident or you’re unable to identify the at-fault party, you’ll likely need to pay an excess. If you’re able to identify the at-fault party, you may not need to pay an excess.

You can choose how much excess you’d like to pay, but keep in mind that the lower your excess payments are, the higher your premium will be.

How do I cancel my Stella car insurance policy?

You can cancel your policy at any time by giving Stella a call. Furthermore, if you change your mind within the first 21 days of purchasing a policy and you haven’t made any claims, Stella will provide a full refund for your policy.

Will my Stella car insurance cover me if I use my car for ride-sharing services?

Unfortunately, Stella won’t cover your vehicle if you use it for ride-sharing services.

Does Stella car insurance cover me if I drive after a caesarean?

Like all major surgeries or health conditions, if your doctor says it’s safe for you to drive, you’ll be covered when you get back behind the wheel. Should you need to claim, you may need to provide Stella with documentation like a doctor’s certificate if the claim happens within the period or recovery for a c-section.

Can male drivers also get Stella car insurance?

Yes! While Stella has designed their comprehensive policy with women in mind, anyone can take out cover, regardless of their gender.
