Real Insurance is a multi-award-winning insurer. In 2005, they entered the market with the core purpose of protecting the quality of people’s lives while delivering innovative products to the market; including home, car, life, travel and pet insurance policies.
Real Insurance has continuously won many awards since 2007, including the Feefo Gold Trusted Service Award – an award based on customer ratings – which they won three years in a row from 2017 – 2019.
Real Pet Insurance offers three different levels of cover1. Be sure to check the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for more information on each policy before you make any decisions to purchase.
Every level of cover protects your pet against accidents and illnesses, but the basic cover manages this even if you’re on a tight budget. Classic Accident and Illness covers a portion of eligible vet bills so that you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank to keep your pet healthy and happy. Available for cats and dogs from 8 weeks old up to 16 years of age.
Other benefits and features of this type of policy include:
Mid-range cover, or Standard Accident and Illness Cover, includes all the features and benefits from basic cover. However, a mid-range policy covers a higher portion of eligible vet bills, so you can give your pet the care it needs to recover from accidents and/or illnesses and pay less when it’s time to claim. There is also an increase in the amount you can claim on each year for those conditions that have limits applied. You can claim up to 75% on eligible vet bills. Available for cats and dogs from 8 weeks old up to 9 years of age.
A ‘Premium Accident and Illness Cover’ policy includes all the features from aformentioned products, with an optional routine care benefit add-on (see below). It also covers a larger portion of the vet bill than mid-range cover, covering up to 80% of eligible vet bills. Available for cats and dogs from 8 weeks old up to 9 years of age.
Only available with Real Insurance’s highest level of cover, the routine care benefit add-on helps cover the costs of routine preventative treatments; such as teeth cleaning, prescription diets, vaccinations, health checks, behavioural therapies, and much more.
Check the relevant Real Pet Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for more information on how your pet could benefit from the routine care benefit add-on.
Pre-existing conditions and certain illnesses are excluded. Terms, conditions, exclusions, benefit limits and sub-limits may apply. Claim for reimbursement.
Real Pet Insurance provides different levels of cover for different types of pet owners, to help insure cats and dogs from unexpected accidents and illnesses. So, depending on your pet’s medical history, breed, age and genetic pre-dispositions, you may be able to choose a level of cover that could suit their needs and your financial situation.
Existing members can make claims online on the Real Insurance website. Simply upload the relevant invoices and consultation notes from your vet visit.
For paper claims, you can find the claim form on the Real Insurance website. Simply fill in your pet’s personal details and ask your vet to complete the rest. Make sure you and your vet both sign the form.
You can also make a claim using GapOnlyTM at participating vets.
Several general exclusions apply to all Real Pet Insurance policies, while others are policy-specific.
To name a few, general exclusions include treatments related to:
Other exclusions, such as routine examinations and dental illness treatment may be partially covered by the optional routine care benefit add-on, which is available to add on Premium Accident and Illness Cover.
There may also be policy-specific exclusions, which you can find out by checking the relevant PDS.
Yes. Once your pet is insured by a policy, they have lifelong cover (to the extent outlined in your product disclosure statement), provided that you purchase the policy before they turn nine years old (for Standard and Premium Accident and Illness Cover) and as long as there aren’t any gaps or breaks in cover, subject to the terms and conditions of the renewal policy. Pets older than nine but younger than 16 years may be eligible for Real Insurance’s basic cover.
Just like humans, the older our pets get, the more likely they are to have health hiccups, meaning the later in life they obtain a policy cover the more likely they are to have a pre-existing condition that will be excluded from cover.
Your premium is calculated using a combination of factors about you and your pet, such as the cover you have chosen, the benefit percentage applicable to the cover you have chosen, the species, breed and age of your pet and other factors related to our cost of doing business.
Yes. If you cancel during the cooling-off period and no claims have been made you may be entitled to a refund of any premiums paid by you.
If you cancel after the cooling-off period and have made no claims, you’ll be entitled to a pro rata refund for the premium if you have paid the annual premium in full. If you have made a claim, you won’t be entitled to the refund.
