Make sure your policy suits your trip

Each trip is different. Some people like to relax, while others seek adventure. Whatever your trip entails, check the inclusions on your policy suit your needs throughout your journey. You may only require standard inclusions such as luggage, medical and cancellation cover, or need more specific insurance options like adventure travel cover.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions

When applying for travel insurance, it’s best to be upfront about any pre-existing medical conditions. Not all insurers provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions, however some insurers will assess your declared pre-existing medical conditions to determine if they can provide additional cover. If yes, they’ll also determine whether any additional premium is required. Not revealing your condition could leave you uninsured should your condition lead to travel delays or the need for medical treatment.

Consider annual cover if you’re a frequent traveller

Are you planning a few trips this year? You may like to consider multi-trip insurance over purchasing a single-trip policy for each separate holiday. Depending on the policy and your travel plans, annual cover may provide you with better value, but make sure you check the limit on days you can travel under an annual policy.

What won’t travel insurance for Cambodia cover?

Even the most comprehensive travel insurance won’t cover you for everything. Before purchasing your policy, it’s important to understand your cover’s inclusions and exclusions. Though each insurer will have different things they will and won’t cover, here are some of the most common exclusions in travel insurance:

  • Adventure travel: Cover for adventure sports isn’t an automatic inclusion in many policies, meaning you may have to purchase additional cover from your insurer.
  • Breaking the law: Any claim resulting from you breaking the law is unlikely to be covered by your insurer.
  • Ignoring official warnings/advice: If you travel somewhere deemed unsafe by the Australian Government or don’t follow the requirements for entering a country, any loss you suffer may not be covered.
  • Intoxication: Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol when you were injured could lead to your claim being rejected, even if the incident wasn’t your fault.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions: Not revealing a pre-existing condition (whether you do this on purpose or not) could mean you’re not covered for any medical expenses or other claims that result from this health issue.
  • Unattended luggage: A claim might not be accepted if your luggage was left unattended in a public space.
