America's Most Ridiculous Food Challenges - Compare The Market

If you want to follow in the footsteps of Man vs. Food, or just discover your own excessive gastronomic challenges in the United States, we’ve collected some of the wackiest, wildest and largest food challenges the 50 states have to offer.

Carnivore Pizza Challenge – Kennesaw, Georgia

America is known for supersizing its food, but this pizza is goes beyond expectation. Approximately 11 pounds (equating to 5 kilos) of juicy beef, dripping cheese and doughy goodness await you at the Carnivore Pizza Challenge in the Southern province of Kennesaw, Georgia.  Responsible for this pizza are Pie in the Sky, and they’re not unreasonable with their challenge; they’ll give two people the chance to polish off this weighty wonder in under an hour. The winner or winners, if the intention is to join in with a partner, is a cool $250USD.

Kitchen Sink Challenge – San Francisco, California

Many people claim to possess a sweet tooth and would thrive when presented with an assortment of sugar-loaded treats. But perhaps the Kitchen Sink Challenge may push their limits. Normally recommended to be shared between six people, this challenge dares the contender to finish eight flavours of ice cream, three bananas, mounds upon mounds of whipped cream, and topped with sliced almonds and cherries. If the opponent emerges victorious, a year’s worth of free ice cream is waiting as a reward. Although, depending on how traumatic the challenge is, the winner may refuse ice cream for the rest of their life.

15 Dozen Club – New Orleans, Louisiana

For Australians who have grown up on fresh seafood, the Acme 15 Dozen Club Challenge may actually be achievable.  To be successful, a contender must eat 180 oysters (15 dozen) within the allotted hour and keep it down. If confident enough, the person may wish to continue eating oysters in order to beat the current record, which currently stands at 522; a record which was achieved  in a mere 10 minutes by a woman called Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas – a name which truly speaks for itself.  If completed, Acme Oyster Bar will foot the bill, induct the winner into their special club and offer a t-shirt as proof. We reckon that’s worth a red-hot go.

Diablo’s Death Wing Challenge – Las Vegas, Nevada

If you have a iron palate for spicy cuisines, try the Death Wing Challenge in Las Vegas. All a competitor needs to do is eat 20 hot wings in 20 minutes. It’s a reasonable request until one realises that the wings are slathered in Diablo’s Death Sauce; a sauce consisting of habanero chili puree and ghost chili extract. The victor receives free wings for their troubles, a t-shirt and immortal glory on Diablo’s Wall of Fame. For the failed attempts, prepare to pay and have your mugshot added to the Wall of Shame.

The Final Word

Is it time to set off to the land of stars, stripes, and epic food challenges? Don’t forget to pack the right travel insurance, as you never know what may happen to you while overseas; Death by hot wing could be a real thing! Make sure you compare travel insurance providers to find one that suits your itinerary and budget and before you embark on a food challenge make sure you’ll be covered for any medical treatment you may need from adverse effects of the challenge. We’ve said our sensible piece – now we’ll let your family provide you with the rest of your gastronomy advice, whether or not you have any intention of taking it to heart (or stomach)!
